On November 13, 2024, Lotus Dairy Farm in Sitio Mambog, Linasin, San Marcelino became the hub of knowledge-sharing and agricultural empowerment. More than 70 farmers from San Marcelino, San Antonio, San Narciso, and neighboring towns in Zambales gathered for a free goat raising training designed to equip them with practical tools to improve their livestock practices and income.

This impactful event was a collaboration between Lotus Foundation, Inc., Amado Integrated Farm, Lotus Farm School & Training Center, and RO Valerio Integrated Farm of Pampanga, all working together to offer farmers real-world knowledge and livelihood opportunities.

From Knowledge to Practice: A Goat Raising Training That Uplifts

The goat raising training provided participants with vital insights on effective goat management. Topics included proper nutrition, health and disease prevention, shelter requirements, breeding strategies, and sustainable herd expansion.

Municipal Agriculture Officer Remin Sardo of San Marcelino also attended the event, showing the local government’s support for farmer-focused initiatives. “Training like this gives our farmers the tools to sustain and grow their livelihoods,” he shared.

Leading the session was Mr. Randy Valerio of RO Valerio Integrated Farm, who spoke passionately about helping farmers turn goat raising into a viable source of income.

“Raising goats can be both sustainable and profitable,” said Mr. Valerio. “With the right practices, anyone can succeed. Even small-scale farmers can make a big difference.”

One of the highlights of the day was the insightful session led by Mr. Randy Valerio of RO Valerio Integrated Farm. As the key speaker, Mr. Valerio brought years of hands-on experience to the discussion, offering practical techniques and expert advice on goat care, feeding, breeding, housing, and health management.

Participants had the opportunity to engage with Mr. Valerio during the Q&A portion, discussing challenges and exchanging ideas for improving goat farming in their respective communities.

Real Stories from the Goat Raising Training

Many attendees expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity. For some, it was their first time attending any kind of formal training.

“This is my first time attending any training about goat farming,” shared Mang Rodel, a farmer from San Narciso. “I used to think it was too hard or expensive. Now I see that with the right techniques and guidance, it’s something I can do to support my family.”

“Ito ang unang beses kong dumalo sa kahit anong training tungkol sa pag-aalaga ng kambing,” sabi ni Mang Rodel. “Dati akala ko mahirap at magastos. Pero ngayon, nakita ko na sa tamang teknik at gabay, kaya ko pala itong gawin para matulungan ang pamilya ko.”

These personal experiences are a testament to how education—especially when it’s local, free, and hands-on—can build confidence and open doors.

Practical Goat Raising Tips That Make a Difference

Mr. Valerio emphasized that beginners can start small: just two goats and proper care can make a noticeable difference in a family’s income. Here are a few tips shared during the goat raising training:

  • Provide clean, fresh water daily.
  • Use local materials to build well-ventilated, dry shelters.
  • Follow a regular deworming and vaccination schedule.
  • Rotate grazing areas to prevent parasite buildup.
  • Record births, health issues, and growth rates.

These simple, low-cost techniques can lead to healthier goats, better productivity, and more stable sources of income.

Sponsors Who Made the Goat Raising Training Possible

We extend heartfelt thanks to our generous sponsors who made the day even more special:

  • 🥛 Vitarich Corporation – for providing snacks and sponsoring a raffle of one sack of Gromax Vitarich Feeds
  • 🐐 CIBAC Partylist – for donating a Saanen Buckling, a prized breed known for its high milk yield

Several participants went home not only with new knowledge but also with valuable resources to help them begin or improve their own goat farms. Congratulations to all raffle winners!
