On January 10, 2023, the Lotus Foundation, Inc. hosted a deeply moving Gift Giving Program in Sitio Bagong Silang, Barangay San Pablo, Castillejos, Zambales. The day was filled with hope, compassion, and connection — but one story stood out among the rest, capturing the hearts of everyone present.
During the outreach, we met Apong Lutang, an elderly member of the Aeta community. His gentle spirit and warm smile hid the challenges he faced every day. Years ago, while tending to his farm, Apong Lutang suffered a serious accident. Since then, he has been unable to walk — relying on others or makeshift tools for mobility, which made his daily life difficult and painful.
Meeting Apong Lutang During Our Gift Giving Program
Apong Lutang, a respected elder in the community, had an unfortunate accident while working on the farm. Since then, he has lost the ability to walk, leaving him immobile and in great need of support. When we encountered him, it was clear that even something as basic as a wheelchair could dramatically improve his daily life.

During the Gift Giving Program, we shared his story with our team and supporters — and it touched the hearts of many.
One Wheelchair, Endless Possibilities
Our Gift Giving Program is designed to respond to the needs of communities with empathy and purpose — and this day was no exception. Upon learning about Apong Lutang’s condition, we recognized how essential a proper wheelchair would be for his mobility, safety, and dignity.
Thanks to the generosity of Miss Jeanette Osdez, who responded immediately after hearing his story, Apong Lutang received the gift that would change his life: a brand-new wheelchair.
When the wheelchair was delivered, there was a moment of pure joy. Tears welled in his eyes as he sat comfortably for the first time in years. It wasn’t just a tool for mobility — it was a symbol of care, solidarity, and the power of community.
The Spirit Behind Our Gift Giving Program
At the heart of every Gift Giving Program by Lotus Foundation is a commitment to real, meaningful impact. Whether it’s through basic supplies, livelihood support, or health essentials, our goal is always to listen first — to see people as individuals with unique needs, stories, and dreams.
What happened in Zambales is not just a one-time gesture. It’s a reflection of what’s possible when compassionate people come together with a shared mission: to uplift others, no matter how small the act may seem.
More Than Just a Donation — It’s Dignity Restored
For many of us, a wheelchair is something we may take for granted. But for someone like Apong Lutang, it represents freedom — the ability to move independently, engage with his community, and regain a sense of control over his life.
These are the moments that remind us why we do what we do. The Gift Giving Program is more than an event — it’s a movement of kindness in action.
