At Lotus Foundation, we know that true change begins when people are given the tools, skills, and opportunities to build their own future. That’s why our Livelihood Program is more than just giving—it’s about empowering communities to create a lasting source of income, independence, and hope.
How It Works – The Dairy Farming Cycle
We partner with local farmers by farming out female cows to them. These farmers commit to caring for the cows as their own—feeding, sheltering, and keeping them healthy. In return for their dedication, they receive the male calf when it is born. This calf can be raised, sold, or used for breeding, providing tangible financial benefits for the farmer’s family.
To make this system sustainable, we purchase forage—such as corn and napier grass—from other farmers in the community. This ensures that our cows have the nutrition they need while also providing steady income for crop growers. It’s a cycle where every link benefits, and every peso spent stays within the local economy.
Education and Skills for a Brighter Future
We believe that livestock is only the beginning. For long-term success, farmers need knowledge and skills. That’s why we provide scholarships in Animal Production NC II and Dairy Farming. These are not just short-term trainings—they are TESDA-recognized certifications that open doors to employment both locally and overseas.
For many rural youth, this is a life-changing opportunity. Instead of leaving home to look for unstable, low-paying jobs, they can now work in reputable dairy farms abroad or start their own sustainable farming ventures right in their hometown.
Empowering Women Through Milk Processing
Our commitment to community development also means empowering women. In many farming households, women are deeply involved in caring for livestock but often do not have their own income-generating activities.
Through our free workshops in milk product processing, women learn to transform fresh cow’s milk into cheese, yogurt, butter, and other value-added products. These can be sold at local markets or supplied to small businesses, giving women a reliable source of income without leaving home. More than the extra earnings, it builds confidence, self-reliance, and recognition of their role in the community’s economic growth.
